FILM PRESERVATION SERVICES
About
Based in the museum’s digital laboratory at Eastman Business Park in Rochester, New York, George Eastman Museum Film Preservation Services provides high-quality digital services to cultural institutions and commercial enterprises. As one of the world’s leading film archives, we take pride in our exacting standards, and we approach every project with the same care and expertise that we apply to our own film preservation practices.
The Eastman Museum was the first institution in the United States to establish a certificate and master’s degree program for archival training in motion pictures. Founded in 1996, the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation has trained archivists from all over the world, and continues to do so, setting high standards in the moving image preservation field. Many staff members in the Moving Image Department are graduates of the school. The digital laboratory—made possible by Eastman Kodak Company’s donation of state-of-the-art digital equipment—enables us to make our expertise and services available to fellow film archives, universities, historical societies, nonprofit organizations, and corporate clients.
Services
Eastman Museum Film Preservation Services offers a customized strategy for each client. We start by discussing projects and agreeing on a suitable workflow. From packing and shipping to storage, from digital transfers to image processing and delivery, all steps of the process are guided by archival standards. Among the services we provide are film inspection and repair, scanning, color correction, digital restoration, and DCP creation.
Our high-quality digital services are competitively priced thanks to the equipment donation from Eastman Kodak Company. And as a nonprofit institution, the Eastman Museum benefits from your business. Net income from the lab is applied to our own ongoing film conservation efforts, helping to ensure that the collective world heritage of motion pictures is preserved for future generations.
